Reading Dog Helps Students

On Thursday's Breakfast show we found out all about the Reading Dog at Ennis National School.

Twice a week students in the reading class are visited by Mackey the dog and her owner Hillary O'Sullivan. Mackey sits and listens to students while they read. The dog has been coming to the school and supporting the kids for the last 3 years.

Reading Class Teacher Fiona De Buitléir started the project at the school after reading an article about the benefits of a Reading Dog.

I visited the school to see Mackey in action and the excitement and enthusiasm from the kids was infectious. They were all eager for their turn to sit and read to Mackey and the benefits of the session were very obvious for both the students and Mackey.

Thanks you to Ms de Buitléir, the students of Ennis NS, Hillary & Mackey for letting me capture their unique project.
