Kilmaley  Businesswoman Maeve Sheridan a got in touch with show. Maeve is setting a new craft beer business in Kilmaley. She got in touch with the show as she is very unhappy about the grant system operated by the Clare Local Enterprise Board. Maeve hasn’t being able to get her application for grant aid processed and this is having an adverse effect on her business. She has done some research  and discovered that the interest rates for paying back loans to the board in Clare are extremely high in comparison to Dublin and feels this is further hampering new rural business.

Ian Bailey said he contemplated suicide due to “a deep sense of despair and hopelessness” and “collapse of normality” after being twice arrested by gardaí investigating the murder of French film-maker Sophie Toscan du Plantier. The second arrest was on January 20th 1998, the day of his 41st birthday, and a Garda from Dublin, Ted Murphy, told him there was “a nice little cell waiting for you in Mountjoy,” he said. Parents in Clare are being urged to have their child’s car seat checked as research from the Road Safety Authority (RSA) shows that as many as 4 out of 5 child car seats are incorrectly fitted nationwide. Since October 2013, the RSA’s ‘Check it Fits’ Service has checked over 4,000 child car seats and restraints in Ireland. Of these, 83% required some adjustment. Worryingly, 79% of seats required a major adjustment, of which 3% were deemed not fit for purpose and condemned.  Brian Farrell Communications Manager  with the RSA joined us to talk about the inintative.

The official launch of Music Generation Clare will take place tonight Friday November 7th, in glór, Ennis .  From 7:30pm there will be a very special musical performance to celebrate ‘County Clare through music – past, present and future’.  Artists and groups performing include Dave Flynn & the Clare Memory Orchestra Chamber & Vocal Group, Clare Youth Service, Scoil Chríost Rí Trad Rock Fusion Band, and the Burren Children’s Choir. John was joined in studio by the the legendary Maura O’Connell and  Mike Hanrahan for a wonderful live performance. Emer’O Flaerty Development Officer, with Music Generation Clare was also in studio to give listeners an understanding of the project.
