On Friday’s Morning Focus John Cooke spoke with Dr Niall Kelly – a Non Consultant Hospital Doctor at University Hospital Limerick

The Irish Medical Organisation  is to hold a ballot of it’s members on industrial action, in response to what it calls unsafe and illegal working practices for junior doctors
The ballot could see doctors go on strike next month, effecting elective procedures
Regulations state junior doctors should only work 48 hours a week, but many, work over 100
The Irish Medical Organisation says Non Consultant Hospital Doctors are routinely required to work shifts of more than 24 hours in a row, something which is illegal under EU law, and the group will now ballot its members for industrial action in an effort to force the Government to take action

Earlier this week on Morning Focus Sergeant Joe Downey mentioned that Gardaí in Ennis are investigating after cattle worth several thousand euro were stolen from a shed in Orda Quin
The culprits forced open the gate to the farmyard to gain entry and escaped with a number of very valuable animals
Andrew wishes to appeal to people to keep an eye out for this sort of things as the same farmer was targeted last year and there have been a few cattle thefts in Clare in recent months
