Septic Tank registration deadline is today!

On Friday’s Morning Focus with John Cooke Paul Moroney, Senior Engineer at the Environment Department of Clare County Council. explained.

CLare has a compliance rate of 70%     
Only those who pay the €50 registration fee before the deadline will be entitled to apply for grant aid on any remedial works that are required on their systems
Houses will also need to be registered in order to be sold. The Minister for the Environment, Phil Hogan, has also stated that houses that do not register will be more likely to be inspected
Over 300,000 households, or 60pc of the total according to CSO figures, have registered their tanks so far.

From today, all cigarette packets produced for the Irish market will carry graphic photographs with a strong health warning.
The images depict the negative health impacts associated with smoking.
The warnings follow other legislative measures to tackle smoking in recent years, including the ban on the display and advertising of tobacco products in shops.

Six Clare communities are taking part in a pilot project aimed at linking up with people of Clare heritage leaving outside of Ireland
The Clare Ireland Reaching Out (IRO) Project is being rolled out on a pilot basis in Tulla, Kilrush, Ballyvaughan, Clarecastle/Ballyea, Kildysart and Kilmaley
The government-sponsored initiative is a reverse genealogy project, which instead of waiting for Irish Diaspora to trace their roots, sees communities or parishes proactively search for people with roots in their areas
An eight week training program to assist in this has now begun, and other parishes will likely be given the opportunity to take part later this year
