A national Vigil for Life is taking place in Merrion Square, Dublin tomorrow at 3pm

On Friday’s Morning Focus John Cooke spoke with an Ennis resident who will be attending the vigil, Josephine McEvoy, who got in touch with her views on the issue

United Airlines are celebrating 15 years in Ireland this month and this morning – they’re launching a new summertime flight service from Shannon to Chicago’s O’Hare airport
The airline already operates a daily year round service to Newark, and today’s Chicago Launch in the latest new route to commence at the newly independent Shannon Airport, which has recently welcomed new flights to Philadelphia, Glasgow, Faro and Ryanair’s Alicante service this week
John spoke with to United Airlines Vice President of Atlantic and Pacific Sales Jim Mueller about the latest welcome arrival for Shannon.

Swimming enthusists are being warned not to bathe in quarries or other unguarded and dangerous areas across the county
Yesterday gardai had to intervene after up to forty young people were discovered swimming in a disused quarry outside Ennis- which was the scene of a water related tragedy a number of years ago
It also comes just a week after 2 people, a 39 year old man and a 15 year old died in a drowing incident at a quarry in County Down
Liam Griffin, Water Safety Officer with Clare County Council, encouraged people to be vigilant around water this weekend

The weather is promised good this weekend – many will be flocking to Clare’s beaches
Liam would like to advise parents of young children to be vigilant
He was alarmed to hear that at a disused quarry in Goris – off the Tulla road – about thirty children were swimming yesterday unsupervised
Lifeguards now operating on Clare’s four major beaches – Lahinch, Kilkee, Fanore and Spanish Point
Whitestrand Miltown Malbay and Whitestrand, Doonbeg, Cappa in Kilrush and Ballycuggeran on Lough Derg – will also be covered
They started last weekend for the June Bank Holiday weekend

David Gorman in Kilrush contacted the programme about the state of the public toilets in Kilkee
He says the public toilet facilities near the pier in Kilkee haven’t been upgraded in decades– and he think that especially since Kilkee is the main town on the Loophead Peninsula and with it being voted best place to holiday in Ireland the toilets should reflect this.

The Pilgrim Walk to Drumcliffe takes place in Ennis this weekend
Organisers are inviting people to gather and remember at Ennis Parish Pilgrim Walk and Mass on Sunday
Beginning at 2.30pm at the Garden of Remembrance and continuing to Drumcliffe Graveyard for a mass
The 65th anniversary of the Empress of the Skies is this year so it will take place at the mass grave as Bella Hehir explained.

The Estuary 120, which will take place for the second time on Sunday, is a 120km cycle in West Clare which brings riders from Labasheeda westwards to Carrigaholt before returning to Labasheeda along the Shannon Estuary, passing through Kilmurry McMahon, Kilmihil, Cree, Doonbeg, Kilkee, Carrigaholt, Kilrush, Cappa, Killimer and Knock
