On Monday’s Morning Focus John Cooke was joined in studio by Ennis Councillor Brian Meaney

The former Green Party politician is now officially a card carrying Fianna Fail member
Cllr Meaney’s application to join the former government party has been accepted
Speaking on this programme last week Brian Meaney confirmed his intention to seek to go on the Fianna Fail ticket for next year’s local elections
The Ennis West Councillor said he’s fell out with the Green Party leadership, criticising it’s urban focus, and said Fianna Fail is the party most likely to allow his pursue his green policies effectively into the future.

Minister for Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht Jimmy Deenihan TD will visit Kilrush this morning to officially launch the National Famine Commemoration Programme 2013 at 11am at An Teach Ceoil
In January 2013, Kilrush was named by the National Famine Commemoration Committee as the host town for the event, which is the centrepiece of an annual observance in Ireland commemorating the Great Famine – John spoke with Minister Deenihan ahead of the event

Mayor of Kilrush Mairead O’Brien spoke about preparations being at an advanced stage for the Kilrush Famine Commemoration
The 2013 National Famine Commemoration will take place in Kilrush on 12th May with President Michael D. Higgins leading the official representation
To coincide with the naming of a date for the event, Clare County Council and Kilrush Town Council will host a 10-day programme of events from May 3-12, which will be a key feature of Clare’s calendar of events for the Gathering Ireland 2013

Sergeant Joe Downey, Crime Prevention Officer at the Clare Garda Division, joined John to appeal for the public’s assistance with information on crimes committed over the past week

Fr. Michael O’Loughlin is a retired Priest living in Ennis, he spent 26 years in South Korea with the Columban Fathers
 
Fr O’Loughlin went to Korea in 1961 – after the Korean War 1953, there was a lot of devastation – he saw the country regain economic and infrastructural strength 
He is still in touch with some people there – he’s concerned about the escalating threat of war from North Korea and feels it’s a dangerous situation as he explained when he joined John in studio.
