Shannon Representatives say they are very concerned after the destruction of a quantity of unstable chemicals from a plant in the town
Gardai, the Clare Fire Service and the Army Bomb Disposal Team were all involved in the pre-planned exercise which took place early yesterday morning, and saw the substances removed from a facility in the Smithstown Industrial Estate, after the from involved had sought assistance
The chemicals were then transferred to a quarry in Bunratty where they were disposed of

On Monday’s Morning Focus John Cooke spoke with Shannon Independent Councillor Patricia McCarthy and Senator Tony Mulcahy who expressed their concern and outrage at the situation.

East Clare Tourism have commenced a campaign against the proposed extraction of water from Lough Derg
They are holding a public meeting to night in McNamara’s in Scariff at 8p.m – all Oireachtas members have been invited to attend
Pat Hayes – Chairperson of East Clare Tourism – urged people to come along and Declan Collison of the Shannon Protection Alliance – who will be addressing the meeting tonight – also had a word
Declan has done extensive research into the issue of water extraction.
