The Protection of Life During Pregnancy Bill – which runs to 18 pages – was published in the early hours of this morning
The long-awaited document will give the Health Minister the power to suspend any hospital or facility deemed to be operating outside of the act and it redefines the offence of intentionally destroying unborn human life
The bill will be introduced in the Dail next week

She had a word with Marian about the challenges of being a carer – Katherine has four other children and says being a carer is the toughest job.
A new national crime league table shows that Clare is one of the safest counties in Ireland.
However the figures compiled by the Irish Examiner also show Clare has the highest rate for road traffic offences.
Dublin is Ireland’s crime capital while Limerick, Wicklow Waterford and Louth recorded some of the higest rates of criminal activity such as robberies, theft, drug, and fraud offences.
While overall crime rates were down nationally, one in every 18 people was a victim of crime last year, with one in 60 a victim of theft

A study from the Educational Research Centre finds teachers in almost two thirds of National schools say their students do not get enough sleep
22 per cent say children can’t concentrate because they are hungry
The authors say many parents may not be aware that the average 10 year old needs about 10 hours sleep a night
They blame student fatigue on the fact that 54 per cent of 10 year olds have a television in their bedroom and 10 per cent have a computer
