Morning Focus Tuesday 11th March

On Tuesdays Morning Focus; John spoke to Eamon O'Cuiv the Fianna Fail Spokesperson on Agriculture ahead of a meeting tonight in Scarriff where the party's alternative CAP proposals for 2014-2020 will be outlined and debated.  The meeting will be hosted by local candidate for the Killaloe electoral area Liam Wiley; party Agriculture Spokesperson Éamon Ó Cuív TD will address the meeting and put forward Fianna Fáil's alternative proposals, which aim to keep the family farm at the heart of Irish agriculture.  The meeting takes place at the Mike McNamara's Bar in Scariff 8pm.

Up next Mary Fogarty Mid-West Industrial Relations Officer with the Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation joined John by phone to discuss findings by the The Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation which says the Maternity Hospital in Limerick is short 24 midwives. The body has conducted a survey of departments across the country to asses the level of staffing.  It's found the ratio of births to midwives in Limerick is one to every 34 births.  That's above the internationally recommended one to every 29 and a half.

Second-level teachers in Clare will participate in a lunchtime protest outside their schools over proposals for Junior Cycle education which teachers say will undermine standards, equity and fairness. The protest is being organised by second-level teacher unions the ASTI and the TUI.  Up to 27,000 second-level teachers all over the country will participate in the protest.  Peter Quinn Teacher at St Flannans College Ennis and ASTI Standing Committee representative for Clare and Limerick had a chat to John about teachers concerns.

Rupert Bell Racing Correspondent spoke to John Live from Cheltenham.  The four day racing spectacular gets underway today. Rupert previewed the big races and hotly tipped contenders.

As Seachtain na Gaeilge continues Breandáin MacFhionnghaile updated John on the latest activities and gave the results from the schools competitions as part of Feile na hInse

Derek O'Connor Tubber Jockey and two times Cheltenham Champion had a chat with John ahead of the races.  Derek is training at Prestbury Park this morning ahead of racing this afternoon. 

David Woodford Ennis Businessman owner of The Irish Shop on Lower Mkt. Street is a Cancer Survivor he had a chat with John about his personal story of bowel cancer in a bid to encourage other men to be proactive about their health and seek medical attention even for embarrassing problems.
