MORNING FOCUS TUESDAY 17TH SEPTEMBER

At a packed meeting last night over 200 people aired their views on the current controversy in the Diocese of Kilaloe.While the decision to postpone the introduction of a permanent programme of Deacons has been welcomed, parishioners remain concerned about the role of women in the church and the progress of a recent exercise of listening to what people in the Diocese of Killaloe want from the Roman Catholic Church here.Clare FM's Aisling O' Rourke went along to listen to the discussion and speak to those who attended.

It’s certainly the season of political party thinks thanks ahead of the resumption of the Dail next week. Following a tumultuous number of months for the Labour party which saw the election of a new leader as well as significant reshuffles at cabinet level The Labour Party is taken timeout to focus their attention for the next Dail term. Big questions in relation to the up-coming budget and the junior Government party levels of popularity are sure to dominate the agenda. Returning to the issue of the male diaconate, Cross chapel parishioner Catherine Scanlon who attended last nights meeting spoke to John about her views on how the church sees the role women. Catherine spoke about how women are viewed as second class citizens and raised the issue of churching for women, a practice of cleansing women after childbirth and the need for the church to see women as equals

As always on a Tuesday Our resident DIY expert Gerry Bredin was in studio to answer your DIY queries. In Gerry’s next two slots he is going to discuss revamping kitchens, this week Gerry concentrated on kitchen tops and works tops and he had plenty of suggestions for listeners.The IFA staged a protest over the price of beef in Ennis this morning leading a protest from the mart to Dunnes Stores. The protest is aimed at securing better prices for their products.  The protest was organised by the Clare branch of the IFA. John spoke with Andrew Dundass Chairman of the Clare IFA branch and aEddie Downey president of the IFA who attended the march.
