Morning Focus Tuesday 18th March

On Today's Morning Focus, Marian Egan was in studio instead of John Cooke.  Marian began the show by speaking to Aine O'Brien who works in Elverys in Ennis.

A major national campaign is underway by the 700 staff at present employed by Elverys Sports to impress on both the examiner and Nama, that the staff support the local Management Buy Out of the company.  There are 10 people employed in the store in Ennis.  SOS Elverys 700 is the campaign slogan – Save our Staff Elverys 700 – and there are petitions in support of the campaign in all the company's stores and on line and on facebook.

Up next Adrian Kelly Clare's Chief Fire Officer joined Marian in studio as Clare County Fire & Rescue Service launches an awareness campaign in relation to the dangers posed by illegal burning and forest, bog and gorse fires.  Hundreds of acres of land were badly damaged across Clare during the period between late March and early April, which at times saw every available fire-fighter in the County deployed to deal with gorse and forestry fires.  Adrian spoke to Marian about fire safety ahead of the most dangerous season for this issue.

Sergeant Joe Downey, Crime Prevention Officer with the Clare Garda Division appealed for the public's assistance with information on crimes committed in the county over the past seven days.  Contact Ennis Garda Station on 06 5 68 48 100. 

William Cahir of Cahir & Co. Solicitors was in studio for Clare FM's Free Legal Advice Clinic.  Issues covered this week included, First time buyers, Property and building of property and the new building.  William answered listener’s questions and queries. 

Marie O'Connor, Chairperson Survivors of Symphysiotomy and Ellen Moore from Lisdoonvarna and Symphysiotomy survivor were up next.  The Survivors of Symphysiotomy's (SOS) complaint to UNCAT, outlines how 24 hospitals and maternity homes across Ireland favoured the procedure over Caesarean Section, long after the practice had been discontinued in other developed nations.  Both ladies spoke to Marian about their personal experiences and the UNCAT complaint which they feel strongly about. 

Finally Pam O'Reilly PRO of The Tulla Pipe Band joined Marian on the phone all the way from New York City.  As part of their 125th Anniversary celebrations The Co. Clare Association in New York officially invited The Tulla Pipe Band to lead them up 5th Avenue at yesterdays NY St. Patrick's Day Parade. Marian spoke to the band about how they got in marching in the parade and what they have planned for the rest of their trip!
