Farming was the most dangerous occupation in Ireland last year with 30 deaths. Health & Safety inspector John Kennedy gave an address to the Clare branch of the IFA last week in which he told Clare farmers that they need to change their perception of workplace safety. A new outreach programme designed to tackle the use of cannabis in Clare is to get underway shortly in Ennis. Rory Keane, Regional Drug Co-ordinator, HSE Mid-West spoke to John about this programme and said it is aimed at those who are concerned at their drug use or would like to stop it. Clare FM's Aisling O'Rourke reported from the Western Business Park in Shannon where American company Amax unveiled its new European headquarters in Shannon. The firm plans to create 100 new jobs at the facility over the course of the next five years. Aisling met those involved in this good news story for jobs in Clare.
Ennis economist, Dr Micheal Collins of the Nevin Economic Research Institute spoke to John about the fact that Ireland is on the verge of repeating the same mistakes that caused the financial crisis and has warned that plans for aggressive tax cuts could make it more difficult to keep up with public spending. This was following the IMF review which was held at Dublin Castle yesterday.
