Morning Focus Tuesday 24th June

On Tuesdays Morning Focus Marian began by speaking to Jim Enright – Cratloe Post Office Action Group PRO and Tom O'Callaghan of the Irish Postmaster's Union as almost 200 people gathered in Cratloe last night to begin the fight to save their post office.  An Post has told it's operator, Dermot O'Brien of Ashling's Food Store, that the post office is now out of contract and that a review body is to decide on it's future.  He has now told people in the area that this would threaten the viability of the business.  Cratloe Post Office was kept open twenty years ago following a public campaign, and locals says they're ready to fight once more.

An post has told us there is a vacant contract in the Cratloe area, and that a three-week consultation process with locals and stakeholders is underway.  A final decision will be made after that, and a number of factors, including the capacity of the local network and levels of business are being assessed.
