On Tuesdays Morning Focus John began by speaking to Juno McEnroe Political Reporter with The Irish Examiner as nominations open for the job of Labour leader.
Minister for Social Protection Joan Burton is said to be the frontrunner, with Brendan Howlin and Alex White also expected to be in the mix. Dominic Hannigan was amongst a group of parliamentary members who met yesterday planning to 'create a vacancy' at the top of the party. John and Juno discussed the events of the past 24 hours and the future of the Labour Party.
Up next Brian Meaney joined John in studio he was eliminated after the seventh count for the Ennis area over the weekend. The Darragh native polled 302 first preference votes, and picked up 18 more ballots through transfers before his elimination. Brian Meaney was an outgoing member of Clare County Council, and Ennis Town Council. He had previously served as a member of the Green Party before joining Fianna Fáil. John and Brian spoke about what the future holds for him now.
The Irish Hospice Foundation (IHF) has announced that the national Hospice Sunflower Days collection for local hospice services will take place on Friday, 6th June and Saturday, 7th June. Next month, people will be able to support their local hospice service by purchasing various pieces of Sunflower merchandise including sunflower pins or sunflower seeds for €2 each from collectors on the streets of cities, towns and villages across Ireland. Hospice Sunflower Days is a major source of income for hospices and voluntary hospice groups countrywide. The IHF coordinates the event on behalf of the hospice movement but all of the funds raised locally, stay locally. John spoke to Mary Moloney of Cahercalla Hospice about how people can get involved.

Journalist Zara King is at the count centre in Cork. She had a word with John about how things stand this morning. We heard the celebrations from last night as Sinn Fein candidate Liadh ni Riada was elected.
Fianna Fáil's Brian Crowley was elected on the first count in the Ireland South European Election yesterday. He exceeded the quota with 180,329 votes. John spoke to Mr. Crowley about his re-election.
