Morning Focus Tuesday 3rd June

On Tuesdays Morning Focus John began by speaking to Feidhlim Hillery a Pharmacist in Shannon.  With the Leaving and Junior Certificate exams due to start next week tomorrow, the Irish Pharmacy Union (IPU), the representative body for community pharmacists, has warned that exam stress can cause an increase in a number of minor ailments among students. These include stomach upsets, diarrhoea and headaches. Certain conditions such as asthma, sinusitis and allergic reactions can also be aggravated by stress.

Andrew Dundass Chair of Clare IFA got in touch with the show this morning as his brother in law, John Casey, had 8 cattle stolen off his farm, 2 cows and 6 calves, in Meelick in the early hours of Friday Morning.  The loss adds up to 6 thousand euro however it's more than that, calves are bawling for their mothers and mothers for their calves.  Andrew is appealing to anyone with information of any kind to contact Gardai.

Barbara Cleary from Miltown Malbay won the Flora Women's Mini Marathon in Dublin yesterday as 40,000 people turned out to support good causes.  She runs with the Donore Harriers Club in Dublin, and finished the course in a time of 34 minutes and 7 seconds.  Second place went to well known athlete Maria McCambridge from Dublin, with Catherine McKiernan in third.  We heard Barbara's reaction to the victory. 

Google and Age Action are once again joining forces in the search to find Clare's top Silver Surfers. The Minister for Communications, Energy & Natural Resources, Pat Rabbitte T.D., launched the 2014 Google Silver Surfer Awards with Age Action at the Soda Lab in Google's EMEA Headquarters in Dublin.  John spoke to Ciara Spillane

Google Silver Surfer Awards spokesperson as they are are asking people across Clare to nominate a friend, neighbour or relative who has embraced technology and made it part of their daily life. 23 Roses from around the world have been selected to represent Irish communities in their counties, cities, states and countries at the Rose of Tralee International Festival from 15-19 August.  Hundreds of people turned out in Portlaoise, Mountmellick, Abbeyleix and Barrowhouse to greet the 60 Roses, Rose Buds, their families and friends from all over the world at the Rose of Tralee Regional Festival over the June Bank Holiday weekend.  Clare Rose Joanne O'Gorman spoke to John as she will be one of the 23 in the Dome this year.
