Yesterday it was announced that up to 5,000 new jobs are heading for Clare over the next five years through the granting of independence to Shannon Airport
It will be separated from the Dublin Airport Authority on December 31st – but the DAA will retain Shannon’s existing 100 million euro debt
The airport will be merged with Shannon Development – which will also be restructured – to form a new publicly owned commercial entity

On Tuesday’s Morning Focus John Cooke spoke with Transport Minister Leo Varadkar.

He then discussed the move with Joe Carey TD of Fine Gael and Fianna Fail Transport Spokesperson Timmy Dooley TD
 
Rose Hynes, Chairperson of Shannon Task Force to oversee the separation of Shannon Airport from the DAA also spoke with John
Rose is currently the chairperson of Bord Gais Eireann while she is a director of a number of other companies. A native of New Quay, she severed on the Shannon Airport Authority for five years, while she was a senior executive with GPA Group PLC and is a former board member of Aer Lingus Group PLC.

‘O’Connell Street’ is a new book that charts the history of the Ennis street
The main purpose of the book is for genealogical purposes – to allow current and future generations to trace their families and the place where they came from
Author and historian Larry Brennan reviews the available records he found for the individuals associated with the 89 buildings on O’Connell Street
The book also includes a number of old photographs not previously published along with advertisements and invoices
‘O’Connell Street’ is being officially launched Thursday at 8pm in the Old Ground Hotel as Larry Brennan and John Bradley of the Clare Roots Society explained when they joined John in studio.
