Clare’s most senior officer moved to allay fears of residents and businesses in East Clare last night over the latest raft of Garda station closures
Broadford is one of eight locations set to lose its station as part of reform of the force despite a 40 thousand upgrade of facilities there just two years ago
Last night Chief Superintendent John Kerin assured those gathered that there would be increased patrols and garda clinics for clerical requirement sof the community

On Tuesday’s Morning Focus with John Cooke we got reaction from community and politcial representatives

Michael McInerney, Chairperson of the Broadford community Alert expressed disapointment but resignation after being told their local garda station would close within weeks – on the 31st of this month

Councillor Joe Cooney, Bodyke- Fine Gael, said he was pleased with the assurances given by Chief Superintendent John Kerin but commenting on the Chief Superintendent Kerin’s warning that  Killaloe Garda Station may have its opening hours cut Councillor Cooney said this is something they will oppose fervently

PJ Mason, Chairperson of the Broadford Action Committee, said the community are preparing a submission to An Post to retain the local post office

Bus Eireann drivers have voted to strike from next Sunday if CIE goes ahead with changes to workers pay and conditions
The transport company needs to make savings of 9 million euro – but talks with staff broke down last month
Members of the have voted to strike by a margin of 90 percent – the action will begin on Sunday if those changes are implemented as planned
John spoke with Michael Faherty, General Secretary of the National Bus and Rail Workers Union who said members won’t operate Bus Eireann services if the changes go ahead.

The death has taken place of well known Clare man Eamon O’Loughlin in Canada
The Ennistymon native was well known for his work in the Irish community in Toronto and he was the editor and publisher  of the Toronto Irish newspaper
The North Clare man was well known for his work in helping Irish emigrants to Canada since he moved across the Atlantic in the 1970’s
He is survived by his wife Madeline  and daughter Treasa and son Rory
We heard the late Eamonn O’Loghlin speaking on Morning Focus in October 2011 about his work in Canada with immigrants and his work in general

Clare ISPCA Warden Frankie Coote was in studio with his regular slot with advice on the proper care of animals 
There were 2 sheep kills in Clare over the Christmas period – one in Crusheen and one in Newmarket on Fergus – Frankie once again urged dog owners to keep them from roaming the countryside
It’s forecasted over 500 dogs received as Christmas presents will be dumped or abandoned this month
Frankie said that puppies are regularly purchased by people without realising the work that’s involved in looking after these animals
