Morning Focus Tuesday June 18

On Tuesday’s Morning Focus John Cooke spoke with the Minister for Communications, Energy and Natural Resources Pat Rabbitte about the strategic investment fund that was launched on Thursday, fracking, the Protection of Life During Pregnancy Bill and the G8 Summit.

The G8 summit continues in Enniskillen today with leaders due to discuss tax and transparency
Yesterday much of the focus was on Syrian conflict, however, no agreement was reached between the US and Russia on how to proceed

On the agenda later today is the issue of corporate tax
The Irish government has come under serious criticism recently with regard to its corporate tax rates

Today he discussed Cyber bullying and the role of schools in dealing with it.

The Pensions Board has raised concerns about the number of employers who are deducting pension contributions from workers – but not passing them on to the pension schemes
It’s launched its annual report for 2012, which shows the number of people with pensions in Ireland fell by almost 14 thousand when compared to 2011
It secured convictions in 15 cases where money was being deducted from employees but not passed on to the pension scheme – and 1.3 million euro was restored to the schemes
Most of the investigations relate to employers in the construction industry and are the result of whistleblowers
David Malone, Head of Operations with The Pensions Board had details of the findings of the report.

The Spancilhill horsefair 2013 is taking place on Monday June 24th – due to the fact that the fair is never held on a Sunday – this is a traditional practice as it is said that no deals should be done on a Sunday – Michael Duggan of the Spancilhill Horse Fair explained to John 
They are also hosting Feile an gCnoic this year  – beginning this Friday
