Morning Focus Tuesday March 5

On Tuesday’s Morning Focus Chief Superintendent of the Clare Garda Division John Kerin joined John Cooke in studio to discuss policing in the county

Clare Garda Districts are to be reduced to just two from the month of April, while night time closures may soon take effect in both Killaloe and Ennistymon Stations
The Chief Superintendent has confirmed that Ennis Garda Station will assume responsibility for the Killaloe District from April 22nd, while Ennistymon will subsumed into the Kilrush District at the same time
Chief Supt Kerin also told last evening’s Clare Joint Policing Committee meeting he’s recommending closure of the current 24 hour Killaloe and Ennistymon stations between the hours of 9pm and 7am to ensure officers are out on patrol overnight instead of being tied to administrative duties in stations
Meanwhile The Chief Superintendent in Clare has said the current level of Garda services cannot be sustained if local policing numbers continue to decline.
With the Garda recruitment embargo still in place, John Kerin has outlined how last years retirements will be further compounded by four more officers leaving the force in the next two months, and others seeking career breaks.

Joint Policing Committee members Councillor Joe Cooney in Bodyke and Michael Hillery in Miltown Malbay voiced their concerns.
