An Post have confirmed that they will not be extending the contract for the Cratloe post office past March 2015. There had been a campaign in place to save the facility but this hasn’t prevented the post-office taking the decision to close the outlet. Closure of rural post offices have been a big talking point in recent years with many feeling the closure of the outlets is the final nail in the coffin for rural living. Tom O’Callaghan Clare Postmaster Rep- Kildysart native and Cllr PJ Ryan (Ind) spoke to Marian about the issue.

Sinn Féin leader Gerry Adams has this afternoon insisted he did not discuss Maíria Cahill’s allegations of rape by an IRA member with her and was “personally horrified” at remarks she attributed to him in a recent television programme. The grandniece of leading IRA figure Joe Cahill, Ms Cahill told BBC’s Spotlight she had to face her alleged assailant in a republican-style court and had a number of meetings with Mr Adams about her allegations. Cllr Mike Mckee  Sinn Feins sole representative on Clare County council spoke to Marian about the on-going controversy.

The Chair of the Clare Tourism Forum has welcomed the Lonely Planet Guide's strong endorsement of the local tourism sector in its preview of global tourism destinations to visit in 2015.The annually updated Guide has named Ireland as one of the top five countries in the world to visit next year with County Clare and the Wild Atlantic Way receiving prominent mentions. Best-selling author Michael Murphy will be appearing at Glor Theatre next Sat 26th Oct along with Eileen Dunne Emer Kelly and Eamonn Lawlor. Michael is a native of Castlebar Co Mayo.A psychonanalyst with a busy practice in Dublin, he is also a award winning senior television producer, director and newscaster with RTE for the past 43 years and has recently retired as newscaster.He has lectured in phychoanalysis at St Vincents University Hosipital and UCD. The legendary brodacster spoke to Marian ahead of Saturdays concert

Patricia Murray,Occupational Psychologist with the Health and Safety AuthorityMonday October 20th saw  the launch of European Week for Safety and Health at Work 2014 by the European Agency for Safety and Health at Work (EU-OSHA)Running under the theme ‘Healthy Workplaces Manage Stress’, the campaign aims to get people talking about an issue that affects the lives of millions of employees across the EU. Dr Murray joined Marian in studio.
