Dr. Aidan O’Brien- Respiratory Consultant at the Midwestern Regional Hospital, Limerick – spoke with John ahead of a COPD Information evening taking place in the Temple Gate Hotel, Ennis this Monday from 6pm
Dr O’Brien will discuss what CPOD is and how Pulmonary Rehabilitation works

Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease COPD is the occurrence of chronic bronchitis or emphysema, a pair of commonly co-existing diseases of the lungs in which the airways narrow over time
This limits airflow to and from the lungs, causing shortness of breath (dyspnea). In clinical practice, COPD is defined by its characteristically low airflow on lung function tests

Pulmonary rehabilitation is a broad therapeutic concept
It is defined as an evidence-based, multidisciplinary, and comprehensive intervention for patients with chronic respiratory diseases who are symptomatic and often have decreased daily life activities
In general pulmonary rehabilitation refers to a series of services that are administered to patients of respiratory disease and their families, typically to attempt to improve the quality of life for the patient

Ennis Town Council has drawn up a feasibility study which it says shows a commuter bus service in the town is viable
The document will now be made available to private contractors with a view to bringing the service to the county town

This study is based on a service running from Clarecastle to the Gort Road Business Park, along a route including the Clare Road, Clon Road, New Road and Steele’s Terrace
Over 3,000 workers and students make a daily commute along or near this route each day
With two vehicles operating at 15 minute intervals during peak times in mornings and afternoons, it’s envisaged that the service would cater for over 300 workers and students a day, generating an estimated annual income for the operators of over 200,000 euro
Ennis Councillors have been told that the Town Council itself will not run this service, but it’s intended that the full results of this study be made available to contractors and groups who may be interested in doing so

Author of the study Michael Neylon, Administrative Officer with  Tourism and Community Development at Clare County Council, joined John in studio  along with ohnny Flynn, Fine Gael Councillor, who has been working towards a bus service in Ennis for the past seven years.

Anne Marie O’Reilly of the Clare Citizens’ Information Service joined John to answer listeners’ social welfare entitlement, employment and consumer law queries. Today she spoke about the forms for the property tax
