Clare’s motor industry has continued to suffer a decline in the first month of 2013
Figures from the Society of the Irish Motor Industry  show 413 new car sales have been recorded in the county in January, down from 551 for the same month last year
This 25% fall is worse than the national average, and comes after 2012 saw Clare’s car dealers record the largest drop in business of any county in Ireland
Sales of commercial vehicles last month largely held steady in Clare, with 40 light- and heavy goods vehicles registered in the county
National figures released last Friday from the SIMI show that new car sales in January were 18.8% down on January 2012
HGV’s (Heavy Goods Vehicles) were down by 7.3%, while LCV’s (Light Commercial Vehicles) were down 9.3% over the same period

Ireland’s oldest person,  – Clare Native Annie Kett, has died in her 108th year
Mrs Kett, was born Annie Hayes in 1905  in The Glen, Killaloe and also resided in Kilkishen with her late husband John
She passed away at Thorpe’s Nursing home in Clarina, Co. Limerick on Sunday, having celebrated her 107th birthday with family and friends there in December
Annie Kett is survived by her Son and Daughter, Grandchildren and Great-Grandchildren.
She’ll be laid to rest in Garraunboy, Killaloe on Thursday
John spoke with her daughter Peggy Courtney.
