Bord na Mona says it’s ready to lodge planning permission for the reservoir, which would store water in County Laois for the Eastern region and extract water from Lough Derg, and that the project is being discussed at Cabinet level
However, the development has been met with stiff opposition from local representatives here in Clare, who want it not to be given the green light

Gerry Siney of the River Shannon Protection Alliance says they have serious concerns about such a project as they fear it could interfere with water levels on the Shannon and ecosystems
Whitegate Councillor Pat Burke said he fears this project would be bad for the local environment and the local economy, if it gets the go-ahead.

The Doonbeg Seafood Festival will take place from this Friday 26th to 28th
The festival, which is organized by the residents of Doonbeg, reflects the great local fishing tradition with the emphasis on seafood in the local restaurants in the area
