Miltown Malbay is celebrating an employment boost today with the opening of a brand new supermarket
Jones’s Supervalu on the Ennis Road in Miltown Malbay formally opens it’s doors to the public, and will employ 50 people in it’s purpose built premises, which together with local community facilities represents a 5.5 million euro investment in the local economy
John Cooke spoke with John Jones – owner of Supervalu, Miltown Malbay who is delighted to be opening for business
Cancer support services in the county have been given a boost with confirmation that the HSE is to support Slainte an Chlair.
The Kilnamona facility is run on a volunteer basis, but is now to be supported by the HSE’s National Advocacy Unit, meaning patients will be referred to it for supports and potentially opening the door for increased funding.
John was joined by a number of guests to discuss this great news
Gerry Quinn of Clare Health Promotion Unit Ennis and the HSE National Advocacy Unit said they are delighted to support the centre, the model and the quality of the service as much as possible locally
Caroline Stack from Ennis is a service user at Sláinte an Chlar
She spoke about her experience of battling cancer and surviving her mother and her son Darren who both died with cancer in recent years- Caroline added that the support received through the centre has helped her greatly.
Teresa Murrihy, a breast cancer survivor from Quilty is the Honorary Chairperson of Sláinte an Chlar Clare Cancer Centre
She spoke about her experience as a service user at the centre and said that Sláinte an Chláir is delighted that the HSE National Advocacy Unit is supporting the Clare Cancer Support Centre to develop as a quality assured model for community based cancer support
Clare Cancer Support is proud to have the support of the HSE in this programme which aims to ensure community based support services are person-centred and safe places for people affected by cancer

Fr Brendan Hoban spoke with John about his latest book ‘Who will break the bread for us? Disappearing Priests’ which is about the declining numbers of priests in Ireland
He says the Church faces a difficult future and it is of immediate and critical concern and added that our priests are disappearing and we need to do something about it now.

Ten year old Noel O’Gorman of Cahermurphy NS Kilmihil won the national writing and art competition for children ‘How We Care’ in Dublin on Monday
Noel was presented with his prize by lord Mayor of Dublin and Nuala Carey of RTE
The competition was open to all schools in Ireland from 3rd to 6th class – Noel’s project was based on how he cares for his Nanny Mary O’Gorman
