On Wednesday’s Morning Focus we heard comments made by the Taoiseach, Tanaiste and Health Minister at the government press conference on the new Protection of Life during Pregnancy Bill that took place this morning

John Cooke also spoke with Political Correspondent with The Irish Examiner Mary Regan who was at government buildings

The long awaited draft legislation on abortion has been published by the government
The Heads of the new Protection of Life during Pregnancy Bill was approved following two lengthy Cabinet meetings yesterday
It proposes that in the case of a medical emergency – one doctor could grant a termination – while if the woman is suffering from an illness – two doctors would be required and then 3 medical experts if there’s a risk of suicide
The 33 page document will now be examined at the Oireachtas Health Committee before being presented to the Dail and Seanad.
