The Government yesterday published the report from the expert group set up to advise the cabinet on abortion law

On Wednesday’s Morning Focus John Cooke spoke with Mark Kelly, of the Irish Council for Civil Liberties – Ireland’s human rights watchdog- who welcomed the publication of the 58-page report of the expert group on the Judgment in A, B and C v Ireland
Senator Tony Mulcahy of Fine Gael said he wants to ensure the consultants who act to save a mother’s life are protected by law.

Ennis native and Manager – Lough Erne Resort in County Fermanagh Fergal Purcell spoke with John about his hotel being chosen to host the G8 Summit next June
The news was confirmed by British Prime Minister David Cameron after he arrived in Northern Ireland last week – Fergal says he is excited and honoured, he added that they would relish the challenge
The G8 summit delegates are made up of politicians from France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United States, Britain, Canada and Russia
The G8 meetings aim to foster consensus on global issues such as economic growth, crisis management, global security and energy

Spanish Point former lifeguard Paddy Casey now 89 years of age, was involved in many rescues during the 1940’s, 50’s and 60’s
He was honoured by Irish Water Safety at a national ceremony in Dublin yesterday – along with the late Peter Downes for their efforts which led to people’s lives being saved
Paddy was one of the first officially appointed lifeguards in Ireland at a time when training and equipment were few or non-existent
From 1944-1962 Fifteen lives were saved – Paddy Casey saved ten lives and Mr Peter Downes R.I.P. saved five lives
John spoke with Paddy about his tremendous achievements.

Herself and other concerned local people formed the suicide awareness initiative about six months ago when someone close to her was affected by suicide – it occurred to Anne that the silence around suicide was palpable and that nobody was talking about it and so she decided to do something about it

They’re having a public talk next Wednesday (December 5th) with guest speakers from the Samaritans (Gerry Dobbins), Pieta House (Tom McEvoy) and Clare suicide Bereavement support (Eoin O’Mahony) all present to address the crowd on various aspects of suicide- the event is taking place at the Armada Hotel in Spanish Point and is open to all

Tom’s brother Adrian took his own life through Suicide in Ennis in 2007 while staying with Tom’s family in Roslevan, causing a devastating impact for relatives here in Ennis and the rest of his family in Dublin.

A fundraising Christmas Market is taking place at the Co Op Mart in Sixmilebridge next  Thursday December 6th and is in aid of Saint Vincent de Paul and local community groups
600 plus members of the Sixmilebridge community members bought the mart off Golden Vale and took ownership of it in a bid to save the community as Fr Harry Bohan, Sixmilebridge Parish Priest explained
There will be over 70 stalls with local craftspeople exhibiting and organisers are encouraging people to come along and support the very worthy causes.
