Broadband Price Hike Hits Clare Consumers

Rural residents in parts of Clare are set to be hit with higher bills for internet access after a state-funded subsidy expired.

The National Broadband Scheme saw 3 Ireland deliver high-speed internet access to sizeable parts of rural Ireland.

However, this has now ended, and customers are now being told that minimum speeds will no longer be guaranteed and that their service agreement no longer applies.

The Irish Independent reports that this will see bills rise by 176 euro a year if they want to keep their current package.  A total of 45,000 people across the country are affected.
