Clare councillors still confused over storm repair works

The county engineer has said local authority staff and public representatives have been put in an unfair position by the Government and OPW.

Tom Tiernan's remarks came amid a heated meeting this week which saw Councillors raise concerns over the level of post-storm repairs that have been carried out here.

Local representatives say they are still confused as to the government's intentions while Mr Tiernan says the level of repair and preventative works needed can't be finished by the end of the year, particularly with the recruitment embargo still in place.

It's anticipated that 7 million euro will have been spent by the end of 2014, but 16.8 million has been allocated to the county and East Clare Fianna Fáil Councillor Pat Hayes says he's now worried that the remainder could be lost.
