Clare TD hits out over homecoming debacle

Dublin City Council is coming under fire for failing to hold an Olympic homecoming event tomorrow.

Fianna Fail spokesperson on Sport and Clare TD Timmy Dooley  has accused the local authority – and the Mayor’s office – of failing to plan appropriately.

It emerged over the weekend that, due to a funding row between the Olympic Council of Ireland and the City Council, no homecoming event will be held in the capital – though each of the medal-winning athletes will attend a reception in their home towns.

Deputy Dooley says the end result of the mix-up will be disappointed members of the public – though he’s welcomed the fact that the government’s offered to hold a reception at Farmleigh House in Dublin later in the week.
