He had abused a cousin who was five-and-a-half years younger than him on dates between 2003 and 2005.

At that point, the man was sentenced to 9 years in prison with the final three suspended, but this has now been reduced.

The Court of Appeal has agreed with counsel who argued that the sentencing judge took too severe a view of the man's offending.

He has now been handed a new sentence of seven years in prison, with the final three suspended.

The man will also undergo 18 months post-release supervision, has been told to enter into a bond of €1,000 to keep the piece during the suspended portion of his sentence, and has been ordered not to contact the victim without her consent.
