Councillors Begin Property Tax Talks

Clare's Councillors have held behind-closed-doors talks on the possibility of reducing the local property tax.

County Councils are to be given the option of reducing the charge by up to 15% next year, but will need to ensure there is enough funding to pay for frontline services if they cut the local authority's income.

No budget decisions will be made until late in the year, and already one Councillor has been told that his calls to reduce the tax in principle are premature.

However, Shannon Sinn Féin representative Mike McKee remains hopeful that Clare residents will see the tax reduced.
