Councillors Defer Distributor Road Decision

A decision on whether a controversial road in South-East Clare will go ahead has been put off.

Thirteen Councillors outlined their concerns about the impact of the Limerick Northern Distributor Road last night, ahead of what was described as "the most important decision" facing Clare's local representatives in recent history.

There was unanimous agreement on the benefits of the route but Councillors stated they could not condone the construction of a road which would bisect the village of Parteen.

A vote will now be held at a re-convened meeting in ten days’ time, and there have been suggestions that a working group be set up to find an balance between the division of a community and a necessary development.
