An Ennis based support service is looking to raise awareness about what it descibes as ‘Ireland’s silent epidemic’.

Foetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder is Ireland’s most prevalent neurodevelopmental disability and on FASD international awareness day the Ireland hub, based in Ennis, is reiterating its message of maintaining zero alcohol intake during the nine months of pregancy.

1 in 10 children in Ireland are born with a form of FASD which is one of the highest rates in Europe, and FASD Ireland is stressing the importance of also remaining alcohol free in the weeks leading up to conception.

CEO of FASD Ireland, Tristan Casson-Rennie, says the coronavirus pandemic was a leading factor in the latest spike of the condition across the country.
