Most of the areas affected are in the North-West and Mid-West regions – where higher winds have now subsided.

However, the ESB says lightning has caused further faults in places, including here in Clare.

There are currently 350 customers without power in Sixmilebridge, Kilkishen and Ballyvaughan.

Eircom crews are also working to restore service to its customers after around 10-thousand were without service yesterday.

Last evening, the company reported faults for over 200 Clare customers in areas including Ballyvaughan, Ennis, Shannon and Tubber.

Meanwhile, Met Eireann is warning of possible wintry showers this morning.

A low-level alert is in place for Ireland, but problems are expected to be at their worst in the midlands, north and east.
