GAA Pressured Over SKY Deal

Clare political representatives, locally and in Dáil Éireann, are seeking answers from the GAA on the Association's television deal with SKY Sports.

The Oireachtas Communications Committee, including Clare TD Timmy Dooley, will grill the GAA's President and Director General today following the agreement which sees 14 matches a season broadcast exclusively on a subscription basis.

It comes as three Councillors – Mayor of Clare Councillor Joe Arkins, Fianna Fáil Tubber representative Michael Kelly (a former Clare senior hurling selector) and East Clare Fine Gael Councillor Joe Cooney (Vice Chair of the Clare GAA Board)  – put a cross-party motion before the County Council, calling on the Association to ensure that everyone can watch matches without any additional cost.
