IFA Clare Chairman Says Salary Controversy Will Damage Organisation

The Clare Chairman of the Irish Farmers Association believes controversy surrounding the salary of top executives will damage the organisation.

The IFA's executive council is to hold an emergency meeting this afternoon after General Secretary Pat Smith announced that he was stepping down in the best interests of the organisation.

There are now calls for the hierarchy of the IFA to reveal their levels of pay –  with claims that Smith was earning 400-thousand a year.
