The Irish Farmer's Association says no decision will be made on Pat Smith's severance package until a potential legal case has ended.

Last night the former IFA General Secretary said he wants half of the 2 million euro to go to charity but the IFA has hit back, saying Smith had demanded the money and is now trying to cover it up.

Chief Executive and Chairman of The Agricultural Trust, Matt Dempsey, says the settlement may not stand up.

The Clare IFA chairman of the IFA says the organisation will have to be "slimmed down" as a result of the ongoing salaries controversy.

Andrew Dundas believes that many members have lost trust in the organisation and this will undoubtedly impact on the organisation in the future.

He says he would be very disappointed if Pat Smith's severance package was paid out in full.
