Report: Peppers Cause Shannon Emergency Landing

It's reported that a consignment of peppers on board an Air France passenger jet triggered a fire alarm that forced the plan to make an emergency landing at Shannon Airport.

The Boeing 747 was travelling from the Dominican Republic to Paris, when the pilot declared an emergency around 800km off the Irish coast.

It landed safely at around 10 o'clock yesterday morning, but fire services from Shannon and Ennis and the Kilrush Lifeboat were all put on standby.

Reports today say the jet's sensitive fire system and on-board extinguishers had been activated by the heat of the peppers.
