Reports: Shannon LNG ‘Scrap’ Ballylongford Project

Disappointment has been expressed in West Clare, amid reports that a major construction project on the south side of the Shannon Estuary has been scrapped.

The Shannon LNG project would have seen a natural gas storage facliity constructed at Ballylongford in North Kerry, creating hundreds of jobs during construction and 50 more when open.

However, it's backers have been involved in a long-running and unsuccessful battle against a 50 million euro tariff which was to be levied on it by the Commission for Energy Regulation.
