The scheme has a 60 million euro price tag, to be shared out across areas like enterprise, infrastructure, education and tourism.

Under a range of measures to be unveiled this afternoon the programme will offer grants to those willing to restore and live in older buildings in rural towns and villages.

The plan includes the provision of a new incubation space in Shannon to encourage start-up businesses and rural entrepreneurs.

There is also a commitment to grow existing routes at Shannon Airport, and to examine the benefits of dredging the River Shannon, in a bid to combat flooding.

However, many of the proposals have been announced previously.

This includes Shannon Group's investment of 21 million euro, and the creation of incentives to attract businesses to join the International Aviation Services Centre in Shannon.
