A Shannon man estimates that 70 million litres of water have been lost in a leak on his property over the past decade.
Pat Madden, who lives at Cul an Greine, discovered the leak when an Irish Water meter found that 1.6 million of litres of water were used in the first ten weeks after it was installed.

The problem was located and repaired yesterday.
However it's believed that the leak could gone unnoticed for 10 years, and that enough water to fill 28 Olympic-sized swimming pools may have been lost.
