Taoiseach Says Independent Report Into Death Of Aoife Johnston Will Be “Instructive And Important”

The Taoiseach has indicated an independent report into the death of Aoife Johnston at University Hospital Limerick will be “instructive and important”.

Simon Harris was responding to calls for a Dáil debate on the regions’ main hospital in the wake of the findings of last weeks inquest into the Shannon teenager’s death at the Midwest facility in December 2022.

The inquest heard that overcrowding at UHL is systematic, and calling for the injustices and failings of the state to be dealt with, Clare Independent TD Michael McNamara has told the Dáil that what little confidence there was in the Midwest in the ED has been destroyed.
