Whistleblower Highlights Mid-West Ambulance Concern

Fresh concerns have been raised about ambulance cover in the MidWest.

Reports today, on foot of claims from a whistleblower, suggest that only one ambulance was in place to provide cover to Limerick City and East Limerick on Monday and also on Wednesday, the night of the Leaving Cert results.

The Irish Examiner say a trained paramedic had to be transferred to Limerick from elsewhere in the Mid-West, and the HSE has told it that the National Ambulance Service is investigating.

It comes on foot of concerns among Clare paramedics about gaps in the service here, an issue which prompted their union representative to say industrial action could be an option as they seek improvements.
