The Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation is seeking assurances from the HSE that a hospital-by-hospital plan will be in place to ensure the system isn’t completely overwhelmed by the end of the Easter bank holiday.

It comes as 651 patients were left waiting for beds at hospitals across the country this morning in the wake of the St Patrick’s long weekend, with University Hospital Limerick by far the busiest in the country.

According to the INMO’s latest analysis 119, admitted patients were left waiting for beds there this morning, with 82 on trolleys at Cork University Hospital; the next busiest facility.
