Champions Scariff-Ogonnelloe looked to have done enough to claim their third consecutive title, but Aine O’Loughlin’s late goal from a 21m free finally settled a dramatic contest.

It was an ending befitting the battle that preceded it, as the two teams who have shared the biggest stage over the last three seasons served up a contest of the highest quality, with some incredible moments throughout.

In a game where there was never more a score to separate the sides, the first big moment of the game arrived on the 20th minute as Aoife Power fired home from an acute angle to put Scariff-Ogonnelloe 1-5 to 0-7 ahead.

Further scores followed to extend the lead to three, but a brilliant O’Loughlin goal for Truagh-Clonlara saw the sides level at 1-7 each heading for the dressing rooms.

Scariff-Ogonnelloe enjoyed the better of the third quarter, and extended their lead to three once more with Mairead Scanlan in brilliant form up front.

Truagh-Clonlara fought back to restore parity, but the champions dug deep to move back two in front with the game entering injury time.

An incisive run from the impressive Roisín Begley led to the late free, and there was never a doubt about O’Loughlin’s intentions as she hammered the ball along the floor to the back of the net through a forest of bodies to clinch the McMahon Cup for her side.
