Water Outages In North Clare Following Major Water Main Burst

Homes and businesses in parts of North Clare are without water this afternoon, following a major burst to a water main close to the Ballymacraven Water Treatment Plant.

Dedicated water service crews have located the leak and are carrying out repairs to restore normal water supply as quickly as possible to customers in Kilfenora, Lisdoonvarna, Fanore, Doolin, Ballyvaughan and surrounding areas.

The utility is warning, however, that it could take until tomorrow before normal water supply is restored to all customers.

Uisce Éireann is appealing to customers to help conserve water by avoiding running taps when not necessary, by taking showers instead of baths and postponing the use of dishwashers and washing machines where possible.

Darragh Conneely, Water Operations Lead with Uisce Éireann is thanking thank impacted customers for their patience as they work to restore normal water supply as quickly as possible and says “We are appealing to customers to help conserve water by not running taps needlessly, taking showers instead of baths and to postpone using dishwashers and washing machines where possible. Further information on water conservation is available on our website at www.water/conserve. We understand the inconvenience unplanned outages can have on customers and we appreciate their patience as we work to return normal water supply”.

Typically, it takes two to three hours following repairs for normal supply to restore to all customers affected by an unplanned outage.

Vulnerable customers who have registered with Uisce Éireann receive direct communications for planned and unplanned outages lasting more than four hours.

The Uisce Éireann customer care helpline is open 24/7 on 1800 278 278 and updates are also issued via Facebook and X (formerly Twitter) @IW_Care.
