New road signage is being introduced in an effort to increase traffic flow into Miltown Malbay.

Clonbony bridge, which is on the N67, remains closed after a second inspection revealed structural damage caused by last week's flooding.

A second inspection at Clonboney Bridge has revealed structural damage to the base of one of its arches but the full extent of that damage is not yet known.

Clare County Council is continuing to monitor the situation on a daily basis and Transport Infrastructure Ireland, formerly the NRA, has appointed contractors to carry out works, once conditions allow for it.

It remains a waiting game though, as water levels remain too high to assess the full extent of the damage and its unlikely that further inspection will be possible until the first half of next week, at the earliest.

Local businesses say Miltown Malbay has become a ghost town since the closure and owner of The Old Bakehouse Restaurant, Eddie Keane fears some staff will have to be let go as a result.

Senior Engineer with Clare County Council, Tom Tiernan says the local authority understands the frustration of local businesses.

He insists that the matter is being treated with urgency and that further measures are being put in place to increase the flow of traffic into the town.
