The Minister with responsability for the OPW has told the Dáil that further flood relief works in Ennis are expected to begin next year.

The Office has funded extensive works which have been carried out in the town since the last major flooding event of 2009, and Clare County Council has said these "saved Ennis" in recent days.

However, some parts of the county town were flooded, including Tobartaoscain, while St. Flannan's College is re-opening to some students today for the first time since Storm Desmond.

Minister Simon Harris says further alleviation measures will follow next year.
