Residents in south east Clare are on high alert for further flooding today as the ESB has confirmed the flow of water through Parteen Weir is set to be increased.

The flow is set to be increased to 370 cubic metres per second, as heavy rainfall in the past number of days has seen the water levels in Lough Derg rise once more.

Residents in Springfield Clonlara have already been hit with severe flooding before Christmas, when the flow through the Weir hit a high of 440 cubic metres per second.

The ESB says they are continuing to monitor the situation and are liaising with the relevant County Councils.
