An investigation is underway after a body was found in a container in the Grand Canal.
The grim discovery was made by people walking along the waterway in Ardclough in Co. Kildare yesterday afternoon at around 3.30pm.
The gender and age of the deceased has yet to be established and the Deputy State Pathologist Dr. Michael Curtis is due to carry out an examination at the scene later.
Garda Forensic teams will carry out underwater searches this afternoon.
It is believed the victim suffered a violent death.
